There is no doubt that the central plot of The Princess Bride, but there are definitely a few other story lines intertwined with our hero Wesley. A good example of this would be Inigo's journey to avenge his father. This was started when Inigo was but a young boy working with father when the "Six Fingered Man" killed his father. With this, he spared Inigo's life, but cut his cheek with his sword to "teach Inigo a lesson".
The quester in this quest is obviously Inigo Montoya. He says his reason for going on his journey is to avenge his father, and while that may be true, he journey is also to discover how his father's killer is doing, due to their connection.
The path for Inigo's quest is strange and unlikely, but did eventually end him up in the place where he needed to be. It starts out with Inigo being hired to go on a different quest, but because he changed paths and no longer was associated with Vizzini, he then accompanies the man in black to go to the palace, where everyone's goals lie.
The challenges and trials that Inigo faces on his quest begin with taking Buttercup to the cliffs of insanity. This is a small trial but he uses conversation to get on Vizzini's good side, while also annoying him with rhymes in the process. He then must face the man in black on the cliffs of insanity, where he eventually loses, but his life is spared, because he is deemed the only worthy fighter in years to have fought the man in black. His next major trial is finding Wesley when he is captured, which is when he must use the spirit of his father to guide his sword towards Wesley. The final Challenge is Inigo's fight with the six fingered man, in which Inigo is the victor.
