One of the most classic scenes in the Princess Bride is definitely the battle of the wits scene between Vizzini and the Man in Black. After besting Fezzik and outsmarting Inigo, the Man in Black approaches a picnic spread with Vizzini and his arm holding a knife to Buttercup's throat, and a battle of the wits begins after some conversation. The battle includes two cups of wine, and Vizzini must guess which is poisoned. If he guesses correctly, he will not consume the poison, and vice versa. This can be related to the concept of communion from How to Read Literature Like a Professor. The only difference, is that it is not to share stories or bond, but to kill one another. Despite falling for one of the classic blunders, the Man in Black eventually wins, and takes Buttercup.
